
Komets Win 3-1 over Wranglers

Las Vegas - In a game bookended by scoreless first and third periods, the Fort Wayne Komets won 3-1 over the Las Vegas Wranglers tonight in the first of a three-game series.
Wranglers goalie Mitch O'Keefe and Komets goalie Andrey Makarov kept their respective nets empty through the first 20 minutes as Fort Wayne edged Las Vegas 11-7 in shots. The visiting team drew first blood as Komets forward Scott Fleming opened up scoring 2:49 into the second. Two minutes later, the Wranglers were down 2-0 as Komets left wing Chris Auger backed up his team with another goal.
At the 17:39 mark of the second, Wranglers forward Robert Smith tallied his first goal of the season to cut Fort Wayne's lead in half and make it a 2-1 game. Komets center Mickey Lang responded 1:21 later, and the second period ended with the Wranglers down 3-1. Neither team was able to score in the third, which secured the 3-1 victory for the Komets in their first game against the Wranglers in history.
The two teams meet for a rematch tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. and Sunday at 2:05 p.m. The Wranglers' fifth annual "Stuff The Bus" food drive benefitting Three Square Food Bank wraps up tomorrow, and fans who donate a minimum of five non-perishable items will get a voucher for a $1 ticket to a future Wranglers game. The team will also give active and retired military members free admission all weekend.
