
Road Warriors Lose Lead, Fall 5-3

Wheeling, WV: The Road Warriors could not hold a 3-1 lead heading into the third period and surrendered two goals in the final frame to fall by a 5-3 score.
Wheeling opened the scoring in the first period with a goal 4:07 in. Carter Rwoney scored his second of the year with assists awarded to Zack Torquato and Ryley Miller. Greenville's Jordie Johnston tied the game ten minutes later for his fifth of the season. Greenville took the lead several minutes later with Andrew Carroll scoring a goal on a deflection. The shot came from Lee Badlwin. Michael Kantor also collected an assist on the play.
Greenville extended their lead to a 3-1 score in the early stages of the second period. With a power play, Brett Perlini scored a one-timer goal from Brandon Hynes and Mike Marcou. The Road Warriors gave Wheeling a five-on-three power play and a four minute power play in the period but goaltender Connor Knapp held the team through the kills.
The lead quickly vanished in the first minute of the third. Cody Sylvester and Scott Zurevinski scored one minute and thirty eight seconds apart to tie the game at three. The Nailers continued a dominate offense attack throughout the third. Sylvester scored his second of the game to bring the score 4-3 in favor of Wheeling. The Road Warriors attempted to tie the game with an extra attacker but could not convert. The puck ended up in the back of their net with the final goal scored by Barry Goers.
Despite his strong play and stopping 41 shots, Connor Knapp took his second loss of the year. Mike Condon took the win for the Wheeling with 21 saves.
The Road Warriors return home next Thursday to take on the South Carolina Stingrays at 7 p.m. Fans who present their BI-LO Bonus Card receive a buy one get one free ticket while supplies last!
