Alaska Aces News Release
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Peter Sivak record a hat trick and tied a team record with five points (3g-2a) to lift the Alaska Aces (5-1-0, 10 points) to a 6-3 victory over the Bakersfield Condors before 4,043 fans at Sullivan Arena on Friday night.
The Aces, who rallied from down 3-1 in the second period, claimed their fifth straight win this season, and eighth in a row over the Condors which dates back to 2011-12. Mark Guggenberger made 24 saves for the win while Nick Mazzolini posted three points.
Sivak's five point game was the first for the Aces since Jan. 29, 2006 when Ryan Gaucher accomplished the feat vs. Augusta.
Bakersfield rolled out of the gate with a 2-0 lead and owned 14 of the first 17 shots in the game. Blake Kessel finished a rebound at the left post for the game's first goal at 8:28 and David Musil followed with a wrist shot from the blueline that knuckled through traffic for a 2-0 edge at 13:43.
The Aces responded when Peter Sivak buried Brendan Connolly's cross-ice feed at the left post for a 2-1 deficit with 1:37 left in the period.
Guggenberger made successive stops on Tyler Brenner (breakaway) and Garry Steffes (rebound) to keep the Aces within a goal early. But Jordan Knackstedt restored the two goal cushion on the power play with 10:57 elapsed, working Chris Collins' feed to the post around Guggenberger.
The Aces began their rally on Mazzolini's deflection goal, set up by Dustin Molle's shot from the blueline, with 6:47 left for a 3-2 deficit. Ben Parker then tied the game on his first career after Mazzolini and Sivak beautifully worked the puck on the rush to Parker, open the in slot with 4:18 left.
Jordan Kremyr's third goal of the season, a wrist shot under the crossbar on goaltender Paul Karpowich, lifted to the Aces to their first lead at 4-3 with 1:26 remaining.
Sivak then added the final two goals for the hat trick to put Bakersfield away. His second goal of the night, a breakaway tally on Karpowich's blocker side, came with 15:27 left in regulation for a 5-3 lead. Sivak originally took Tim Coffman's feed at center ice and slipped around defenseman Martin Gernat, who was teetering at the Condors blueline.
Sivak then finished Tim Coffman's cross-ice feed at the right circle for the hat trick goal with 7:02 left for a 6-3 cushion.
Karpowich took the loss with 19 saves.
