TONIGHT:
The Ontario Reign (3-0-1-1) conclude their two-game series against the Idaho Steelheads (2-2-0-1) in Boise tonight. Ontario was forced into extra frames for the third straight game but earned their first overtime/shootout win on Friday. During that last game, the teams combined for 38 penalty minutes including four fighting majors dealt out after tensions got high. The Reign hope to flip the switch on the season series with Idaho as last season the Steelheads earned more wins against the Pacific Division champions than any other team, with five.
WHERE THEY STAND:
The Reign have found themselves in a familiar spot atop the Pacific Division with eight points on the season so far. They are ranked second in the Western Conference, behind Alaska by just one win (two points), and ahead of the fifth ranked Steelheads in the Western Conference by three points.
LIGHTING THE LAMP:
The Reign are two-for-two when scoring first this year and have scored at least three goals per game, four of the five games they have played this season have seen four Reign goals on the board. Ontario is fourth in the ECHL and second in the Western Conference with an average of 3.80 goals-for. When on the power play, the Steelheads have a 60% success rate at home scoring three out of five times on the advantage.
LET'S GET PHYSICAL:
There is no doubt that Idaho has a strong, physical club this season as they rank second in the league in penalty minutes with 98 - 20.60 per game. Ontario's squad has racked up noticeably fewer penalty minutes than in past seasons with 84 - 15.60 per game.
COACH CHRISTIE'S MILESTONES:
Tonight will mark Jason Christie's 150th game behind the bench for the Ontario Reign. If he can come away from Boise with another win tonight, he will have earned his 400th career ECHL victory as a coach.
