
Komets Gain Five Points in Week 21

Fort Wayne, IN | Monday, March 7, 2011 -- The Komets earned five points out of a possible eight for week 21 of 2010-11.
Fort Wayne improved to 27-23-6 for 60 points and trail sixth-place Wichita by two points and fifth-place Quad City by three points. Fourth place Missouri leads the K's by an eight-point margin in the push for home ice advantage in the playoffs with 10 games remaining for each team.

Wednesday, March 2, at Fort Wayne 4 Evansville 3, overtime
The Komets directed a season-high 48 shots at the Evansville net. The OT win snapped a two-game winless slump. The Komets improved to 4-1-0 when at home on Wednesdays with their first home overtime win in more than a year. The last home OT victory was Dec. 18, 2009 against Quad City 3-2.
Friday, March 4, at Bloomington 6 Fort Wayne 2
The Komets suffered their second straight road loss and fell to 3-5-0 when playing Bloomington with two meetings remaining. Defenseman Mike Ratchuk posted an assist for a three-game assist streak (4 assists), his first point-streak with the Komets this season.
Saturday, March 5, at Evansville 2 Fort Wayne 1, overtime
The Komets fell to 2-4 in overtimes and extended their road winless streak to three games (0-2-1). Fort Wayne is 1-1-1 after three visits to Evansville with one trip remaining when the teams last meet for the season March 19.
Sunday, March 6, at Fort Wayne 5 Evansville 1
Fort Wayne snapped a brief two-game winless skid and remain unbeaten in regulation at home on Sunday's (4-0-1). It was Evansville's last of seven appearances in Fort Wayne with the Komets gaining a 4-2-1 edge in games played on Coliseum ice. The Komets lead the season series 5-3-2 and will face the IceMen once more when they skate at Evansville March 19. Kevin Reiter earned the win in his fifth straight appearance and Colin Chaulk registered his third three-point game (3 assists) of the season. Tab Lardner scored a pair of goals to lead the Komets with 24 goals in 42 Fort Wayne games.
Special K's -- The Komets allowed only two power play goals on 17 chances to improve their penalty kill to 287/343 and a CHL fourth-best 83.7% efficiency. Fort Wayne was successful on all 10 penalty kills in the two home games played to extend their home penalty kill success streak to 31 straight kills over the past six games.
ABOUT THIS WEEK
The Komets will be idle for their last four-day period of the season before launching a season-ending cycle of 10 games in 16 nights when they travel to Colorado Friday for a 9:05pm ET faceoff. The Komets then skate at Rapid City Saturday at 9:05 ET. The Colorado Eagles and the defending CHL champion Rapid City Rush are knotted at the top of the Turner Conference with 72 points each. The Komets next skate at home when Bossier-Shreveport visits for a pair on Coliseum ice Wednesday, March 16 and Friday, March 18.
Friday, March 11, Fort Wayne Komets (27-23-6, 60 points) at Colorado Eagles (34-19-4, 72 points), 9:05pm ET
The Komets will begin their assiduous 10-game conclusion to the season with a visit to Loveland, Colorado to face the Eagles at 9:05pm ET Friday at the Budweiser Events Center (5,288). It's the first ever meeting between the Komets and Eagles. Colorado will visit Fort Wayne for the final two Komet home games of the regular season schedule March 25 and 26. The Eagles are 5-1-1 in their last seven outings after splitting a pair in a home stand against Rio Grande Valley over the weekend. Colorado is led by center Riley Nelson with 32 goals, 80 points and a CHL-best plus-30. Colorado visits Missouri Tuesday before hosting the Komets Friday.
Saturday, March 12, Fort Wayne Komets at Rapid City Rush (34-21-4, 72 points), 9:05pm ET
The Komets will face the CHL champion Rush at Rapid City Saturday. Faceoff is at 9:05pm ET at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center Arena (5,119) in Rapid City, South Dakota. Rapid City shutout the Komets 4-0 in Fort Wayne's home opener Oct. 16 in the only previous meeting. The Rush, in a battle with Colorado for the top spot in the Turner Conference and home ice advantage throughout the conference playoffs, are 2-4-0 in their last six games and are coming off a split of two home games against Wichita over the weekend. The Rush are led by skater Ryan Menei with 36 goals, 43 assists, 79 points and a plus-25. Rapid City's goaltender Danny Battochio leads the CHL with 25 wins in 48 appearances. Rapid City will host Tulsa Friday before welcoming the Komets Saturday.
