RiverKings Bring House of Grace to Home of Hockey
March 7, 2011 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Mississippi RiverKings News Release
SOUTHAVEN, MS --- The Mississippi RiverKings hockey club will celebrate the works of the House of Grace during the team ¬â¢s Mar. 19th hockey game against the Texas Brahmas, which will include a fellowship outing for House of Grace supporters in conjunction with a RiverKings ticket fundraiser.
House of Grace, a nonprofit, Christian organization, provides safe refuge and free, confidential assistance to women who are victims of domestic violence and their children. It serves seven counties in North Mississippi including DeSoto, Tate, Panola, Quitman, Tunica, Coahoma and Marshall.
Local community leaders, including Lorine Cady, Greg Guy, Jim Flanagan and Pat Vickery, saw a need for an domestic violence shelter in 1999 and came together to found the ministry.
Jill Guy, House of Grace Office Administrator and Greg ¬â¢s wife, said the organization is vital to the women and children who have made the choice to leave an abusive situation.
"The House of Grace provides emergency safe shelter to women who are being victimized by an abuser, as well as victim/court advocacy, free confidential counseling and other needed resources to women who are victims of domestic violence," Guy said. "House of Grace equips women with the knowledge and necessary skills to never again feel they have to endure abuse. The women are able to lead their lives with God ¬â¢s grace and peace, free from fear and violence.
"The best part of my job is knowing there are women and children today who no longer live in fear; who no longer have to explain to friends, co-workers, church members their bruises and injuries. Children of victims are taught that domestic violence is never acceptable and should never be tolerated. Women who were broken physically, emotionally and even spiritually by domestic violence, are living restored, full and peaceful lives, and I am so glad to be a part of that."
House of Grace sponsors several community events to help raise funds and awareness for domestic violence, such as the House of Grace Fashion Show; the organization also participates in the Sunset Saddle Club Horse Show, Home Builders Association 5K Run, and the Creed Brotherhood BBQ Contest.
House of Grace also runs a thrift store located at 2136 Stateline Road West, Suite A in Southaven. To purchase a ticket, make a donation or volunteer, call their offices at 662.253.0250, or call the thrift store at 662.253.0041.
The Mississippi RiverKings are supported by their community partners, season ticket holders, fans, and by program-related investments of the Maddox Foundation, an independent private foundation based in Hernando, Miss.
