Gems to Honor Former Pro Hockey Players from Dayton

DAYTON, OH - The Gems will be honoring former pro hockey players that played in Dayton.

Players from the original Dayton Gems team in the 1960s through the current roster will be attending the Dayton Gems game against Quad City on Friday, March 25.

This will be the first time since the Gems returned to Dayton in 2009, that players from different eras will reunite in the city they used to play in.

"The original Dayton Gems and the Dayton Bombers have a rich tradition in this community," said Dayton Gems President Joe Greene. "Hockey fans of all ages are encouraged to come help us celebrate the return of these former players and honor some of the legends of Dayton pro hockey."

There are currently 11 former players from the Gems, Bombers and Troy Bruins organizations scheduled to appear at the game.

All players will be honored during the first intermission of the Gems game against the Quad City Mallards at 7:35 p.m. Players will be in Court 1 of Hara Arena prior to the game and during the second intermission to mingle with fans and sign autographs.

The Shriners will also be in attendance for the evening. Members of the Shriners will drive their well known miniature cars on the ice prior to the introduction of the players.

Prior to the game, there will be a pregame party in the Hara Arena parking lot. There will be inflatable structures and face painters for children to enjoy along with live music.

The first 1,000 fans who enter Hara Arena, they will also receive a pack of Dayton Gems trading cards. This will be the fourth and final trading card giveaway of the season.
