QUACK TRACKS

Clinch

The Mallards last night clinched a berth in the Central Hockey League ‚¬â„¢s Presidents ‚¬â„¢ Cup playoffs. The Mallards ‚¬â„¢ win yesterday at Bloomington combined with the IceMen ‚¬â„¢s loss yesterday evening at Fort Wayne guarantees that ninth place Evansville cannot overtake the fifth place Flock in the Turner Conference standings.

Tight

The Mallards are one point ahead of sixth place Wichita in the Turner Conference standings. The Thunder has three games in hand on the Mallards. The fourth place Missouri Mavericks opened up some daylight between themselves and Quad City by sweeping the Mallards last weekend. Missouri, which has played two fewer games than the Mallards, leads the Flock by five points.

Comebacks The Mallards have come from behind in six of their last seven wins and in ten of their last 12 victories. On the season, the Mallards have trailed at some point in 18 of their 31 wins.

Trifecta With yesterday ‚¬â„¢s win, the Mallards improved to 8-2-0 this season when playing the final game in a stretch of three games in three nights.

Special Teams Quad City ranks eleventh in the league on the power play (17.2 percent) after going 3-for-7 on the man advantage yesterday. The Mallards rank third in penalty killing (84.4 percent).

Defensive The Mallards rank second in the league in goals allowed (2.67 per game). The Mallards have given up two goals or fewer in four of their last five games.

Offensive The Mallards rank last in goal scoring (2.78 per game) and have gone without a 5-on-5 goal in their last three games.

Brown Out Goaltender David Brown (16-14-1, 2.26, .931, 3 SO) has played in five straight games since returning to the Mallards from the American Hockey League ‚¬â„¢s Toronto Marlies. Brown leads the league in save percentage, ranks second in goals against average and is tied for third in shutouts.

Center Drew Akins yesterday made his Mallard debut.
