Komets Extend Point Streak to Five Games; Roy Gets Call from Laval

Fort Wayne, IN - Week 18 in review-- The Komets collected four points on their three-game trip to Newfoundland and pushed their point-streak to five games (2-0-3). The Komets were 1-0-2 on the journey North and improved to 23-17-6 and 52 points after 46 games. Fort Wayne holds third place in the Central division of the Western Conference, trailing second-place Toledo by 13 points with 26 games remaining in the campaign.

All three games were one-goal affairs, each requiring extra time. Friday the Komets dropped a 3-2 shootout to the Growlers. Saturday the Komets posted a 3-2 overtime victory and Sunday tacked on another point for the trip with a 1-0 overtime loss. The Komets are 5-2 in games decided in overtime.

For the week Marco Roy had points in two of the three games with an assist Friday and the game winning goal in overtime Saturday. J.C. Campagna scored both Fort Wayne markers Friday while Jamie Schaafsma scored both goals Saturday. Goaltender Eric Levine finished the week with an unbeaten-in-regulation streak of five decisions with the Komets and unbeaten in eight overall for the season after going 0-0-2 in the series. Friday Levin made 29 saves on 31 shots and Sunday the sixth-year pro netminder shut out the Growlers in regulation on 31 saves. Overall for the week Levin allowed three goals for a 1.42 goals-against average and stopped 60 of 63 shots for a .952 save percentage. Goaltender Luka Hafner earned is 12th win of the season Saturday making 29 saves on 31 shots.

Komet leaders-- Brady Shaw, Jake Kamrass and Justin Hodgman lead with 39 points each....J.C. Campagna leads with 23 goals, six power play goals and five game winning markers....Hodgman leads with 11 power play points.....Kamrass leads with +9......Taylor Crunk leads with 103 penalty minutes.

Special K's-- The Komets were a perfect 16/16 on the penalty kill during the three games at Newfoundland and have been successful on 21 straight kills. The Komets rank 10th overall with a penalty kill rating of 84.4% (179/212) and rank second on the road at 89.2% (91/102).

Milestones-- Jamie Schaafsma is sitting on 198 ECHL career points. Jason Binkley has 99 Fort Wayne career points. Brad Shaw's next game will be his 100th career game.

Up next-- The Komets skate at Kalamazoo on Valentines night Thursday at 7:30pm. Friday the Komets return home to host the Adirondack Thunder at 8pm. Sunday the Komets welcome the Wheeling Nailers at 5pm.

Thursday, Komets at Kalamazoo Wings (24-20-3, 51 points), 7:30pm-- Long-time rival Kalamazoo hosts the Komets for Valentines Day Thursday. It will be a battle for third place in the Central division. The Komets lead the Wings by one point heading into week 19. The Komets are 3-5-0 after eight meetings with five remaining. Three meetings remain at Wings Event Center (5,113) where the Komets are 1-1-0 after two. Kalamazoo is riding a six-game point streak (5-0-1) after a 4-3 overtime loss at Kansas City Saturday. The Wings are idle this week until they face the Komets Thursday.

Friday, Adirondack Thunder (27-17-5, 59 points) at Komets, 8pm-- Friday's match is the only meeting of the season with the Thunder from the North division. Second place Adirondack trails first-place Newfoundland by eight points with 23 games remaining. The Thunder are coming off a three-game set at Florida where they were 2-1-0 and are 5-2-0 in their last seven games. Adirondack is idle this week until they travel to Fort Wayne Friday.

Sunday, Wheeling Nailers (21-22-6, 48 points) at Komets, 5pm-- Division rival Wheeling is in a fight for playoff position, trailing fifth-place Indy by one point after 49 games and fourth-place Kalamazoo by three points. The Komets are 2-1-0 against the Nailers after three games at Wheeling. Five meetings remain, three in Fort Wayne and one at Wheeling. The Nailers are 1-4-4 in their last nine outings and will host Reading Wednesday and Brampton Friday and Saturday before making their first trip of the season to Fort Wayne Sunday.

PHP Report Card Night Friday--The Komets present PHP Report Card Night this Friday when the Komets host the Thunder from Adirondack. Students with an "A" or "A Equivalent" on their most recent report card earn a free ticket and a chance to win a $1,000 savings bond to help fund their future educational goals. Students can take their report card or a letter from their teacher showing an "A" or an "A equivalent" to the Coliseum Ticket Office between now and game night.

Meijer Family Night Sunday-- The Komets present Meijer Family Night at every Sunday home game this season. Roy heads for AHL-- The Komets announced Monday that Forward Marco Roy has signed a PTO with the Laval Rocket of the AHL. This is Roy's second call-up of the season. The skater logged a 12-game stint with the AHL's Chicago Wolves in December scoring a goal and adding an assist for two points. Roy has points in 10 of his last dozen Komet games and a five-game home point-scoring streak (3g, 4a). He has scored 11 goals and 25 points in 26 total Fort Wayne games.
