
Komets Enter Week 13 Riding 3-Game Point Streak; Wings Visit Wednesday, Return Sunday

Fort Wayne, IN --- The Komets earned five of six points for week 12 of 2013-14 and improved to 13-11-6 for 32 points and trail first place Cincinnati in the North Division by 10 points after 30 games.
Week 12 in review-- The Komets began the week by celebrating New Year's Eve with a 5-3 home win over the visiting Toledo Walleye in front of a crowd over 9,000 for the 11th straight year. The Komets are unbeaten after four straight visits by the Walleye (3-0-1). The next meeting will be the first of the season at Toledo this Friday, Jan. 10.
Friday the Komets opened a home-and-home series against the IceMen with a 3-2 overtime win at Evansville. Brandon Marino (RW) extended his point and assist streak to five games (4g, 6a) scoring a goal and adding an assist. The Komets improved to 2-3-0 after five trips to Evansville with one trip remaining in March.
Saturday the Komets collected a point in a 2-1 overtime setback to the visiting IceMen and extended their unbeaten streak to three games (2-0-1). It was the fifth Komet game decided in overtime this season (3-2) and the ninth game overall decided in extra time (3-6).
Saturday night during the Komets' home game against Evansville it was announced that Sunday's originally scheduled home game against Kalamazoo was postponed until this Wednesday, Jan. 8, due to the impending inclement weather conditions. All tickets purchased for the Sunday, Jan. 5 game (Komets home game #17) will be honored for this Wednesday's game at 7pm.
Milestones-- Captain Kaleigh Schrock (RW) skated his 300th pro and Komet game (regular season) Friday at Evansville..... Garrett Vermeersch (F) dished his first Fort Wayne and ECHL career point (assist) Sunday in his third game with the Komets.....Andrey Makarov (G) started all three games for the week posting a three-game unbeaten streak (2-0-1) and is unbeaten in four straight home starts (2-0-2).
K notes-- Marino leads the Komets with15 goals, 24 assists and is tied for first in the ECHL with 39 points. Marino also is riding a six-game road point-scoring streak (5 goals, 4 assists) and a four-game road assist streak (4 assists)..... Scott Fleming (F) leads league rookies with 19 assists, 29 points and 98 shots.....Jace Coyle (D) ranks first among ECHL defensemen with 16 assists and third with 19 points.....The Komets have scored the most first goals in the ECHL with 21 out of 30 games (11-5-5).....Mike Embach (LW) has a four-game road point and goal-scoring streak (5 goals, 2 assists) after netting the overtime game winner Friday at Evansville.
The week ahead-- The Komets will make up Sunday's game when they host the Kalamazoo Wings Wednesday at 7pm. It's the first of four Fort Wayne home games on Wednesday. All Wednesday night Komet home games this season will start at 7pm. Friday the Komets make their first trip of the season to Toledo for a 7:15pm faceoff. Saturday the Komets travel to Kalamazoo for a 7:30pm faceoff at Wings Stadium. Sunday the Komets complete the week of four games in five nights hosting Kalamazoo at 5pm.

Season Ticket Exchange Night Sunday-- Season Ticket Holders can exchange unused season tickets from previous 2013-14 home games for tickets to this Sunday's game against Kalamazoo. Tickets can be exchanged at the Coliseum Ticket Office.
Wendy's Family Night this Sunday-- The Komets present Wendy's Family Night at every Sunday home game. Coupons for a Sundays 4-for-$28 ticket offer are available at Wendy's locations around the Fort Wayne area. Also, fans can bring their skates for a free open skate after each Sunday Family Night home game.

Sound Off with the Komets Monday Nights on 21Alive-- The Komets, 21Alive and title sponsor PHP present Sound Off with the Komets, a live weekly televised sports program each Monday night during the Komet season at 7:30pm on WPTA TV 21Alive. The half-hour show, normally televised from Champions Bar and Restaurant in downtown Fort Wayne, will be aired live this Monday night, Jan. 6, from the 21Alive studios due to extreme weather conditions. The show features highlights, interviews and call-ins as Komet players and personnel serve as co-hosts with 21Alive's Tommy Schoegler. This Monday night defenseman Jordan Southorn will be Tommy's guest.
KOMETS ON ICE THIS WEEK
. Wednesday, Jan. 8, Kalamazoo Wings (16-11-3, 35 points) at Komets (13-11-6, 32 points) 7pm ET-- The Komets will make up the game postponed Sunday due to the weather. It's Kalamazoo's first of six visits this season and the third of 14 meetings overall. The season series is even at 1-1-0 after two meetings and since the Komets upended the Wings 4-1 at Kalamazoo Dec. 14 in the last meeting. The Komets have a chance to gain ground on Kalamazoo, trailing the division rival Wings by three points entering the week's play. Kalamazoo is also enjoying a three-game point streak (2-0-1) after doubling up the Walleye 6-3 Saturday at home in their last time out.
. Friday, Jan. 10, Komets at Toledo Walleye (10-17-3, 23 points), 7:15pm ET-- The Komets lead the fifth-place Walleye by nine points entering the week. Toledo is 2-5-0 in their last seven games. Fort Wayne leads the season series 3-0-1 after a 5-3 home win over Toledo New Year's Eve in the last meeting. Friday's game is the Komets' first of three at Toledo this year. The division rival Walleye will skate at Evansville Tuesday before welcoming the Komets Friday at 7:15pm.
. Saturday, Jan. 11, Komets at Kalamazoo Wings, 7:30pm ET-- The Komets will make their third of eight trips to Wings stadium this season. It's the sixth of 13 Saturday road games for the Komets (3-2-0). The Wings will be coming off a road trip to Cincinnati Friday night.
. Sunday, Jan. 12, Kalamazoo Wings at Komets, 5pm-- The Komets cap a week of four games in five nights, and three out of four against Kalamazoo. It's the third of six Fort Wayne Sunday home games.
