Reign Win First Home Game of 2014, 3-2 over Bulls
January 5, 2014 - ECHL (ECHL)
Ontario Reign News Release
ONTARIO, Calif. - The Ontario Reign (26-5-1-3), back-to-back Pacific Division Champions and proud affiliate of the NHL's Los Angeles Kings and Winnipeg Jets, extended their win streak to four games with a 3-2 overtime victory over the San Francisco Bulls (12-17-4-1) on Sunday afternoon before a crowd of 7,840 at Citizens Business Bank Arena.
San Francisco was first on the board when a rebound from Collin Bowman flew off the pads of Michael Hutchinson right to Luke Judson who slammed it home, putting the Bulls up 1-0. With just 23 seconds left in the first period, the Reign crashed the Bulls net and Mario Lamoureux pushed the puck across the crease; Kyle Kraemer and Everett Sheen picked up the helpers.
The second period passed without a single tally and each team recorded ten shots on goal.
At the 6:15 mark of the third period, Cody Sol ripped a one-timer from the top of the right circle just as the Bulls came back to full strength. Gasper Kopitar was under pressure and found Matt Register at the top of the slot, who in turn fed a perfectly timed pass to Sol to give Ontario a 2-1 lead. With just under four minutes left in regulation, Berkely Scott caught Hutchinson sprawled out on the ice and flipped the puck between his legs over the Reign goalie to tie the game 2-2.
The regulation clock ticked down to zero and the Reign faced their 12th overtime of the season. Matt White and Kopitar had a two-on-one rush into the Bulls zone and a quick pass from White hit the blade of Kopitar; he snapped the puck past Tyler Beskorowany to win the game and mark his first professional goal at 3:34.
Hutchinson earned the win with 31 saves on 33 shots; Beskorowany took the loss with 31 saves on 34 shots.
Three Stars:
1. ONT - Gasper Kopitar
2. ONT - Mario Lamoureux
3. SF - Scott Berkeley
