Fort Wayne, IN - The Komets snapped a seven-game winless skid by turning back the visiting Dayton Gems Wednesday night 4-2 in front of 6,106 at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum.
Fort Wayne goals were scored by Chris Francis, Neil Musselwhite, Leo Thomas and Kaleigh Schrock. Thomas' marker extends his point streak to five games (3 goals, 2 assists). Schrock sealed the win with a short-handed empty net goal with 24 seconds remaining in the game. Komet defenseman Guy Dupuis, appearing in his 990th all-time Komet game (regular season and playoffs) dished three assists. Jonathan Ornelas and Brandon Naurato each hit the net for Dayton.
Fort Wayne netminder Nick Boucher earned his fifth win of the season stopping 28 shots while Dayton's Jeff Jakaitis registered his eighth loss of the season making 41 saves on 44 Komet shots.
The Komets improve to 6-15-1 and Dayton falls to 13-10-1.
The Komets will take a Christmas break and return to action Sunday, Dec. 26 at Hara Arena in Dayton at 5pm for the third of a four-game mini series between the two teams. The Komets will host Dayton Monday Dec. 27 at 7:30pm for the next Fort Wayne home game.
