BLOOMINGTON, IL --- Brian Holmberg scored a three-goal hat-trick for the Bloomington PrairieThunder, as they defeated the Mississippi RiverKings 3-1 in Central Hockey League action on Wednesday, December 22nd in Bloomington, Illinois

Holmberg scored first at 11:37 of the first period for a 1-0 first intermission leader. He then netted a pair of goals in the second period, scoring first at 11:27 to make it 2-0 Bloomington, and the third came shorthanded at 13:20 for a 3-0 advantage.

Mississippi got on the board late in the second period on a goal from Louis Dumont with 19 seconds remaining in the session, but that would be all of the scoring in the contest.

Neither team scored on the power play, with both teams finishing 0-for-6. Mississippi out shot the PrairieThunder 31-28. Losing goaltender Alexander Pechurskiy stopped 25 shots, but saw his record fall to 7-5-0 for the season. Brad Phillips was the winning goaltender for Bloomington with a 30-save performance.

Of note for the RiverKings, Matt Boyd played his first game in coming off injured reserve, but was replaced by Milan Maslonka, who was placed on the 10-day injured reserve after being hurt in the Tuesday night victory over the PrairieThunder in Southaven.

Mississippi heads into the Christmas break with a 13-13-1 record, while Bloomington improved to 14-8-1 with the victory. The RiverKings are back in action after Christmas with a 2:00 PM game Sunday, December 26th at Allen against the Americans.

Next home game for the RiverKings will come on Sunday, January 2nd, in a 3:05 PM contest against the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs.
