Dayton Gems News Release
DAYTON, OH - The Dayton Gems will face the Fort Wayne Komets twice this week as they continue to try and climb up the Turner Conference standings.
The Gems will be on the road Wednesday to take on the Komets at 7:30 p.m. in Fort Wayne. The away game will wrap-up a five game road trip that dates back to December 10. Heading into Wednesday's matchup, the Gems are 2-2 on the road trip. A win against the Komets on Wednesday would give Dayton a winning road trip and extend their current winning streak to three games.
Dayton will face Fort Wayne again on Sunday, December 26, at Hara Arena. The puck is slated to drop at 5 p.m.
This season, the Gems are a perfect 4-0-0 against the Komets. Dayton's last win against the Komets was a thrilling 3-2 come-from-behind victory on Saturday, December 18. In that game, the Gems overcame a 2-0 deficit by scoring a goal in the second period and two goals in the third period.
Scouting report on Fort Wayne
The month of December has not been a kind one for Fort Wayne. The Komets are 0-7-0 for the month and have struggled to score against any of their opponents. In four of the team's seven losses, the Komets managed just two goals or less. During the same stretch, Fort Wayne has allowed their opponents to score three goals or more in each contest.
Despite the losses, Leo Thomas has been a bright spot for Fort Wayne over the past four games. Thomas has recorded a point in each of the past four games (2 goals, 2 assists) including a goal against the Gems on Saturday. P.C. Drouin is on a similar four point streak over the same span. He has scored one goal and recorded three assists.
Top Dollar Gems
Brett Lutes and Jeff Jakaitis both played pivotal roles in the Gems two wins last week.
Lutes scored three goals on Friday against Bloomington and recorded a goal and an assist in Saturday's game against Fort Wayne.
Defensively, no one was better than Jeff Jakaitis last weekend. Jakaitis recorded 44 saves on Friday night and 32 Saturday. He allowed just two goals on 78 shots against him and was named the Oakley CHL Goalie of the Week.
