After 20 days away from Heart Health Park, Republic FC returns home for its first game in September to take on San Antonio FC at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Key Moves for San Antonio FC
Republic FC acquired attacking midfielder Emil Cuello from San Antonio FC on August 25 in a two-player loan deal, as the Indomitable Club sent Mitch Taintor to SAFC for the remainder of the 2021 season.
New SAFC acquisitions Cam Lindley and Marcus Epps have turned major on-field profits for SAFC this season. After coming over from Indy Eleven in December 2020, Lindley has created a team-high 51 chances to rank second in the USL Championship. Epps is next in line for SAFC with 30 chances after making the move from Portland Timbers 2 in the offseason.
Nathan's arrival from Brazilian side Coritiba FChas paid off with team highs of eight goals, 47 shots and 23 shots on goal.
SAFC's newcomer corps of Nathan, Epps, Justin Dhillon (Seattle Sounders FC) and Santiago Patiño (Orlando City SC) has combined for 23 of San Antonio's 33 goals this season.
San Antonio FC This Season
San Antonio FC currently sits in third in the Mountain Division and is enjoying an offensive spurt of 20 goals inits last 11 games.
After starting the season with draws in six of its first 11 games, SAFC has since won seven of its last 11 despite winning once since September 4. Epps has been a key part of San Antonio's recent success with three goals and an assist on 22 shots, including seven chances created - allin the club's last five matches.
All together, San Antonio enters Saturday third in the league with 328 shots on the season and second in the Western Conference behind only Phoenix Rising FC. SAFC is in action on Wednesday night at New York Red Bulls II before making the cross-country trip to Sacramento for Saturday's match to close out a four-game road trip.
Head to Head
The Boys in Old Glory Red hold a 3-2-2 record against SAFC all-time heading into this weekend's contest, including a 2-0-2 mark in the Indomitable City. Republic FC holds a narrow 9-8 goals advantage on the south Texas side.
The last time these two sides met, Republic FC secured three points in San Antonio in August of 2019 thanks to three first half goals, including one from Cam Iwasa. The last fixture in Sacramento came two months before that in June, ending with a 2-1 win for SRFC.
