September 15, 2021 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Charleston Battery News Release
CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Charleston Battery announced Wednesday that the September 22 match at Patriots Point against New York Red Bulls II will be "Hometown Heroes Night." The club will honor frontline heroes and first responders such as policemen, firefighters, EMS and healthcare workers who work tirelessly to protect the safety and vibrancy of the Charleston community.
Representatives from local fire departments, police departments and healthcare facilities are set to be honored in a pre-match presentation on the field before the Battery face divisional rival Red Bulls II.
The Hometown Heroes festivities kick off at 5:00 p.m. Wednesday as members of the Charleston Fire and Police Departments face off against the North Charleston Police Department in a friendly 10v10 match on the Battery's training pitch adjacent to the stadium. The pre-match contest between departments will be free for fans before gates open at 5:30 p.m. ahead of the 7 p.m. kickoff against New York.
As local Hometown Heroes are honored throughout the match at Patriots Point Wednesday, the club also relaunches its Holy City Heroes T-Shirt fundraiser. Kicked off in 2020, the Battery's Holy City Heroes T-Shirt campaign raised over $4,000 for MUSC's COVID relief fund. The 2021 Holy City Heroes T-Shirt campaign, in conjunction with Hometown Heroes night, will raise funds for the North Charleston Cops Athletic Program, an initiative that offers area youth the opportunity to participate in sports and educational programs created by positive interactions with law enforcement personnel. The 2021 Holy City Heroes t-shirts are currently available online at the Battery Team Store and will be available for purchase at the stadium during Wednesday's match.
The club will be offering $9 discounted tickets for local heroes to the 7 p.m. match against New York Red Bulls II. Policemen, firefighters, EMS and healthcare workers in the Charleston area can get the exclusive discounted tickets in advance by emailing tickets@charlestonbattery.com or by calling 843-971-GOAL (4625).
