Charlotte Knights News Release
(ALLENTOWN, PA) -- Chicago White Sox LHP Carlos RodÃÅn looked sharp in his second rehab outing with the Charlotte Knights as the club went on to beat the Lehigh Valley IronPigs by a score of 5-1 in the opening game of their three-game series from Coca-Cola Park in Allentown, PA on Tuesday. The surging Knights have now won three consecutive games.
Making his first start since Thursday, May 24th when he left that game after taking a line drive off his head, RodÃÅn (1-0, 0.00) was impressive on Tuesday in his return to the hill. The hard-throwing left-handed pitcher gave up just three hits over five shutout innings to earn the win. RodÃÅn, a product of N.C. State University, struck-out eight batters and walked just two. Overall, it was his third rehab start on the season as he recovers from offseason shoulder surgery. He made his first rehab start on May 19th with Kannapolis (A).
The Knights jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead on Lehigh Valley starter Ben Lively (1-2, 2.74) in the first inning courtesy of a two-run double by left fielder Alex Presley. The "Pigs were down 2-0 before taking an at-bat in the game. One inning later, center fielder Jacob May singled home second baseman Juan Perez to give the Knights a 3-0 lead. Right fielder Michael Saunders added an insurance run for the Knights with a solo home run in the fourth inning, his second of the season.
With the Knights ahead by a score of 4-0, the "Pigs finally got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the eighth inning when Mitch Walding doubled home Colin Cowgill for their first and only run of the game. The first place "Pigs could not muster any other runs on the night.
In the top of the ninth inning, Charlotte designated hitter Mason Robbins launched his first career Triple-A home run, a solo shot off Lehigh Valley reliever Pedro Beato. The home run by Robbins gave the Knights a 5-1 lead at that point. In the bottom of the ninth, RHP Gregory Infante walked Dylan Cozens to start the inning, but settled down to record the final three outs of the game.
The Knights will look to make it four-in-a-row as they continue their three-game series against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (Triple-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies) on Wednesday night from Allentown, PA. Pre-game radio coverage will begin at 6:50 p.m. on 730 The Game ESPN Charlotte and CharlotteKnights.com. The "Voice of the Charlotte Knights" Matt Swierad will have the call for all of the action. RHP Carson Fulmer is scheduled to start the middle game of the series.
