Charlotte Knights News Release

FORT MILL, S.C. - They came close but the Charlotte Knights couldn't take the final game of the series as the Toledo Mud Hens defeated the Knights 2-1 at Knights Stadium. The Knights had scoring opportunities in the 8th and 9th inning but were unable to capitalize.

Charlotte starting pitcher Jeff Marquez pitched 7.0 innings allowing two runs off six hits but the effort wasn't enough to secure a win. Marquez's counterpart Adam Wilk was equally effective. Wilk's only blemish of the game was a solo home run to Knights Drew Garcia, the homer was the first Triple-A home run of Garcia's career.

With the game tied up in the 6th, the Mud Hens moved ahead for good on a solo home run from Ryan Strieby. The Knights put a runner on second with two outs for Dayan Viciedo in the 8th inning. Viciedo appeared to foul off a pitch but the umpire ruled that the ball was in fair territory and the Mud Hens tagged him out to end the inning. Knights' manager Joe McEwing argued the call to no avail.

In the 9th inning Knights catcher Tyler Flowers was at first base with one out when Jordan Danks doubled off the left field wall. Flowers tried to score from first but was thrown out at home. The Mud Hens Enrique Gonzalez struck out Gookie Dawkins to end the game. Gonzalez earned his 6th save of the season

The Knights begin a road trip tomorrow where they will take on the Buffalo Bisons. RHP Freddy Dolsi will start for Charlotte and the Bisons will start RHP Chris Schwinden.
