
Knights Drop Sunday's Finale to Indians 11-5

(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) - The Charlotte Knights dropped the finale of the six-game series against the Indianapolis Indians by a score of 11-5 on Sunday afternoon at Truist Field. With the loss, the Knights earned a split of the six-game series.
Catcher Carlos Pérez started the scoring for the Knights with a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning. For Perez, it was his team-high eighth home run of the 2022 season. The blast gave the Knights an early 2-0 lead.
LHP Brandon Finnegan started for the Knights and allowed three runs in the second inning to the Indians. In all, Finnegan threw 1.2 innings and gave up three runs on four hits. The Indians possessed a 3-2 lead until the bottom of the second inning when the Knights battled back.
Right fielder Micker Adolfo had a solid day at the plate for the Knights. Adolfo launched a solo home run in the second inning and finished the day with a game-high four hits. He went 4-for-4 with the home run. Left fielder Mark Payton also homered in the second inning, which gave the Knights a 5-3 lead at that point. The home run was his second of the season.
The Indians continued to fight back and went on to score eight unanswered runs over the final seven innings. RHP Emilio Vargas (0-3, 6.28) was saddled with the loss after he allowed two runs on three hits over three innings of work. Indianapolis pounded out 11 runs on 15 hits on the afternoon to win for the third time in the series.
The Knights will now have an off day on Monday before opening a six-game series against the Norfolk Tides starting on Tuesday at 6:35 p.m. from Truist Field.
