Knights Awarded Win over Hens in Rain Out

April 30, 2016 - International League (IL1)
Toledo Mud Hens News Release

Toledo fell to the Knights 6-4 on Saturday night in Charlotte in a game that last only five and a half innings due to rain. Toledo is now 8-12 on the season.

DH Cameron Maybin got things rolling in the first inning for Toledo when he sent the first pitch over the wall in left field. Following a walk issued to CF Tyler Collins, RF Steven Moya recorded his 13th RBI of the season with a double down the right field line.

Toledo kept its offense rolling in the second inning, following a double from 1B Chad Huffman and Maybin's second RBI of the contest.

Charlotte came roaring back shortly thereafter, taking a 5-3 lead over Toledo. SP Daniel Norris (3 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 2 SO) struggled with his command in the bottom half of the second inning, allowing five runs, four of which were earned, via two walks, one hit batter, two singles, and a double. The Knights cashed in on two Toledo errors, sending their fifth runner of the inning over home plate.

In relief for Toledo, righty Ruben Alaniz tossed two innings of one-run ball. Alaniz struggled in the fifth, walking two Knights batters and allowing a single. Charlotte drove in a run with bases loaded and one out on a fielder's choice ball. However, Alaniz limited the damage in the inning to only one run, as he was rewarded with a ground ball straight to the mound to end the threat.

LF Nate Schierholtz crushed a solo shot in the top half of the sixth inning, his first home run of the year. This long ball cut the Knights lead to two runs.

The Mud Hens would not have a chance to close the gap on Charlotte, however, as the game was called in the bottom of the sixth inning due to rain.

The Mud Hens wrap up their three game set with the Knights tomorrow in Charlotte for a 2:05 p.m. first pitch.
