
Atlanta Braves' No. 3 Prospect Ozzie Albies Promoted to Gwinnett

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA - The Gwinnett Braves, in conjunction with the Atlanta Braves, announced today the addition of shortstop Ozzie Albies to the Gwinnett 25-man roster. Albies, currently rated the Braves' No. 3 prospect and the No. 26 prospect in all of Minor League Baseball by MLB.com, joins the G-Braves for his Triple-A debut after opening the season with Double-A Mississippi.
The 19-year-old Albies batted .369 (31-for-84) with five doubles, two triples, one home run, 13 runs scored, seven RBIs and two stolen bases in 22 games with Mississippi. He ranked second in the Southern League in batting at the time of his promotion, and was also among league leaders in games (T-1st), hits (2nd), triples (T-2nd), on-base percentage (3rd, .442), at-bats (4th), OPS (6th, .954), runs scored (T-7th), slugging percentage (8th, .512), extra-base hits (T-9th, 8) and doubles (T-10th).
Signed by the Atlanta Braves as a non-drafted free agent on July 2, 2013 out of Willemstad, Curacao, Albies holds a career batting average of .333 (224-for-673) in 176 minor league games since making his professional debut in 2014.
In 2015, he was named Class-A Rome's Player of the Year by the Braves after batting .310 (122-for-394) with 21 doubles, eight triples, 64 runs scored, 37 RBIs and 29 stolen bases in 98 games. Albies was named both a midseason and postseason All-Star in the South Atlantic League and was the starting shortstop for the World Team in the 2015 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game in Cincinnati.
Albies joins pitchers Tyrell Jenkins (No. 8) and Lucas Sims (No. 12) and third baseman Rio Ruiz (No. 16) as Gwinnett players currently ranked on MLB.com's Atlanta Braves Top 30 Prospects list.
The Gwinnett Braves play game two of a three-game series against the Columbus Clippers tonight at Coolray Field, first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. Right-hander Williams Perez (0-1, 5.40 ERA) will start for Gwinnett against right-hander Mike Clevinger (2-0, 3.20 ERA) for Columbus. Tony Schiavone and Nick Green will have the play-by-play call on 97.7 FM at 6:35 p.m.
The first 2,500 fans will receive a bobblehead of G-Braves' manager Brian Snitker, commemorating his 40th season with the Atlanta Braves organization. It's also Amica Insurance Night and night two of Strike Out Hunger! presented by Fifth Third Bank.
