Buffalo Bisons News Release
Scott Diamond was good, but Alec Asher was better, tossing 8 2/3 innings for his first win of the season in the IronPigs 3-2 victory Saturday night.
The Bisons fell to the IronPigs 3-2 in the middle game of a three game set from Coca-Cola Park Sunday night. Buffalo struggled for the majority of the game against Lehigh Valley starter Alec Asher, who pitched 8 2/3 innings and surrendered just two hits. Buffalo's record now sits at 10-12, with the IronPigs improving to 11-10.
Asher narrowly pulled off a complete game, one-hit shutout, before surrendering a two-run homerun to Andy Burns with two outs in the ninth. Asher pitched quickly and effectively throughout, allowing just one baserunner through the first eight innings. He struck out 5 in his first game at the Triple-A level this season. Edward Mujica got Domonic Brown to fly out to left to end the game, and secured his seventh save of the season.
Scott Diamond pitched six solid innings for the Bisons, giving up three runs on five hits. The left-hander did however only strikeout one IronPig batter, his fewest total of the season. Ben Rowen and David Aardsma both pitched scoreless innings in relief.
Lehigh Valley scored one run in the first, second, and sixth innings, with RBI provided by Nick Williams, Alfredo Marte and Andrew Knapp. Taylor Featherston scored twice in the game, going 2-3 with a walk in the contest. Centerfielder Cam Perkins went 2-3 as well, increasing his batting average to .396.
David Adams single in the third was the lone Buffalo hit, and baserunner, for the majority of the contest. The single extended his hitting streak to five games. He has now reached base in 13 of his last 14 ballgames.
Adams also provided a defensive highlight, stretching over the third base dugout in the bottom of the eighth to end a Nick Williams' at-bat.
The Bisons and IronPigs will wrap-up their three game series on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 1:35 p.m., with Wade LeBlanc taking the mound for Buffalo, against Lehigh Valley's David Buchanan.
BISONS NOTES:
Scott Diamond has now pitched at least five innings in four of his five starts in 2016... Jesus Montero's hitting streak ended at 13 games, as he went 0-3 against Alec Asher... Andy Burns' ninth-inning homerun was his first of the season, with his last homer coming last Aug 12 against Rochester.
