
Knicks Fall Short to Cruise in Morning Matinee

DETROIT, MI - The Westchester Knicks, the official NBA G League affiliate of the New York Knicks, came up just short to the Motor City Cruise, 121-116, in a Thursday matinee affair that saw 20 ties and 14 lead changes at Wayne State Fieldhouse.
Tyler Hall (returning rights) led the Knicks (11-9) in scoring with 24 points on 41.7% shooting from three (5-12), together with six assists and three rebounds. In his second game with the team, Louis King (returning rights) had an all-around performance with 23 points, seven rebounds, five assists, and two steals. Dewan Hernandez (returning rights) dropped 22 points and six rebounds for his 13th game with at least 20 points for the Knicks. Coming off the bench, Quinton Rose (returning rights) scored in double figures for the third straight contest with 19 points, hitting 3-5 from deep, in tandem with five rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Kethan Savage (tryout) went for 14 points, four steals, and three rebounds.
Motor City (15-5) was led by Derrick Walton Jr. with 27 points. Cassius Stanley had 22 points, while Cheick Diallo chipped in with 20 points and 20 rebounds.
In the first 12 minutes of play, both teams went back and forth, with four ties and five lead changes in the opening period. The Knicks scored seven straight unanswered points in the final 81 seconds of the quarter to take the largest lead of the game, 35-26, at the end of the first.
The hosts came back to regain the lead in the second, 46-44, with 6:58 remaining in the half. Both sides continued to trade buckets for the rest of the quarter, and the score was all knotted at 65-65 heading to the locker room.
After the break, the score was tied nine times in the third quarter, as neither team would let up in a closely contested battle. The biggest lead for either side was five, 96-91, in favor of Westchester with 1:16 on the clock in the third. The score was tied at 96-96 going into the fourth.
It was more of the same in the final frame, as both squads continued to hang around in the contest. With 77 seconds left in the game, the score was tied for the last time at 116-116. The home team would go on to score five unanswered points to wrap up the game, as the Knicks ran out of gas in the five-point decision.
Westchester will head to Delaware for a Saturday night matchup with the Blue Coats on March 5 at 7 PM ET.
