
Vipers Fall to Lakers in Rematch Game

Edinburg, Texas - The Rio Grande Valley Vipers (16-6), the NBA G League affiliate of the Houston Rockets, fell 126-100 to the South Bay Lakers (13-7) on Friday night.
The first quarter was a close one for both teams as the score reached 26-22 in favor of the Lakers. With 11:11 still remaining in the second quarter the Vipers went on to score four points tying the game 26-26, but South Bay would go on a 10-0 run and take a 36-26 advantage. The Lakers would go on to expand its lead and send the game into halftime with a score of 67-47.
South Bay turned up the heat in the third quarter and led by as much as 36 points. At the end of the third the Lakers led 98-70. Despite the continuous efforts of the Vipers to come back, the home team fell 126-100.
Mfiondu Kabengele led the Vipers with 23 points and nine rebounds. Marcus Foster totaled 21 points, four rebounds and six assists. Marvin Smith hit 13 points. Anthony Lamb was shy of a triple-double with 13 points, 11 assists and nine rebounds.
Jay Huff was the leader of the Lakers with 27 points and seven rebounds. Los Angeles Lakers Two-Way player Mason Jones added 26 points, four rebounds and six assists. Paris Bass summed up 22 points and seven rebounds. Mac McClung accumulated 21 points, five rebounds and six assists. Tremont Waters came off the bench to contribute 12 points and five assists.
The Vipers return to the court on Tuesday, March 8 as they travel to Oklahoma City to take on the Oklahoma City Blue at Paycom Center. The game is set to begin at noon and may be streamed via ESPN+. For more information visit www.rgvipers.com.
