Spokane Chiefs News Release

SPOKANE, Wash. - The Spokane Chiefs wrapped up their weekend home stand in style as they took down the visiting Tri-City Americans, 2-1 in front of 9,808 raucous fans at Spokane Arena on Saturday night. Goaltender Reece Klassen picked up the win with 24 saves for the Chiefs.

After a scoreless first period, the Chiefs jumped out to a 1-0 lead at 9:19 of the second period, capitalizing just 14 seconds into a power play when Adam Beckman fired his 26th goal inside the top-right corner.

Tri-City managed to tie things back up when Parker AuCoin flipped a pass from the corner to streaking Nolan Yaremko, who tipped it home past Klassen at 16:33.

Eli Zummack put the Chiefs back on top 2-1 at 3:32 in the third period when he cut inside from the left wing for a highlight reel goal, snapping the puck top shelf over Tri-City goaltender Beck Warm's right shoulder.

Klassen made several big saves for the Chiefs in the final minute with the Americans' goalie pulled. In just under 160 minutes played against the Americans as a Chief, Klassen has allowed just three goals against for a 1.13 GAA and .955 SV%.

With the win, Spokane is now tied with Tri-City at 69 points with 11 games remaining in the regular season, including three more between the two rivals. With a regulation loss by the Kamloops Blazers, the Chiefs' "magic number" for a playoff berth is now four points in the standings.

Klassen finished the night with 24-for-25 while Warm was 28-for-30. Spokane went 1-for-4 on the power play and 3-for-3 on the penalty kill.

The Chiefs wore special "Chiefs Fight Cancer" jerseys for the game, which were auctioned off to benefit local non-profit Every Woman Can.
