Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

Prince Albert, SK. - All good things must come to an end.

The Prince Albert Raiders, fresh off losing back to back games last weekend to Brandon, scored a 7-1 victory over the visiting Wheat Kings Saturday night.

The loss snapped a season high six game winning streak for the Wheat Kings, who remain in the second wild card spot in the Western Hockey League's Eastern Conference as the Red Deer Rebels fell at home to the Edmonton Oil Kings.

The 29-23-3-4 Wheat Kings, who beat the Saskatoon Blades 6-2 on Friday, remain two points back of Medicine Hat and three behind the Calgary Hitmen with nine regular season games to play.

Noah Gregor scored twice to pace the winners, who improved to a league leading 49-8-1-2 on Saturday night while Vincent Iorio scored for the Wheat Kings. For the 16-year old rookie defenceman, it was his first ever WHL goal.

The game was Brandon's first of seven straight road games as the Wheat Kings hit the road while the Tim Hortons Brier invades the Keystone Centre. It was also their seventh game in eleven days and coach David Anning says his club simply ran out of gas.

"We played very well for two weeks and had some very big emotional wins," he said. "We played against quality teams and got the results we were after. Tonight was the result of us playing seven games in 11 nights, and we ran out of gas. Our guys have had to scratch and claw their way to victories over the last two weeks and tonight was one of those situations where at the end of a tough stretch we ended up with three lines for half the game. That's a lot of hard minutes on our guys and we just weren't able to get the job done."

The Wheat Kings don't play again until next weekend when they will kick off the month of March with games in Calgary and Edmonton on Friday and Saturday nights.

Next home game for the Wheat Kings is Rain Check Night - Wednesday, March 13th - against the visiting Moose Jaw Warriors.

Any unused tickets from November 23rd through February 22nd can be exchanged at the box office for a "free" ticket to this game (regular box office agency fees apply).
