Clinton LumberKings News Release
Clinton, IA - The Clinton LumberKings took a 1-0 lead on Henry Contreras's RBI groundout in the second inning but never scored again in an 8-1 loss to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Tuesday night at Alliant Energy Field. Right-hander Maverick Lasker allowed just the one run on five hits over 7.0 innings for the Rattlers.
Lasker (W, 4-3) allowed singles to Welington Dotel and Luis Nunez before the soft grounder by Contreras plated the game's first run. It looked like that 1-0 lead might stand up as right-hander Taylor Stanton pitched 4.0 perfect innings, but the Rattlers would recover in the fifth.
Stanton yielded four-straight singles to open the inning, including a game-tying RBI single by Chris Dennis. He'd survive further damage with help from a 9-3-2 putout at the plate, but would not be so lucky in the sixth. The next inning, a throwing error by shortstop Gabriel Noriega sent D'Vontrey Richardson around for the go-ahead run and an RBI double by Cameron Garfield and RBI single by Cutter Dykstra extended the lead to 4-1.
Stanton (L, 6-3) would exit after the Dykstra hit, having allowed four runs on seven hits over 5.2 innings. Left-hander Jose Jimenez stranded a man in the sixth inning but was touched up for three more runs in the eighth. Dykstra recorded another RBI single and Dennis lifted a two-run double to the left-center gap to make it a 7-1 lead. A Scooter Gennett solo homer off right-hander John Housey capped the scoring at 8-1 in the ninth.
Wisconsin left-handers Caleb Thielbar and Matt Costello worked scoreless eighth and ninth innings, respectively.
No Clinton hitter had a banner night, although Vinnie Catricala doubled for the 19th time in the eighth to extend his hitting streak to eight games. Tim Morris saw his 12-game streak come to an end, finishing 0-for-4.
Dennis finished 2-for-4 with a team-high three RBI while Dykstra went 3-for-5 with two RBI. Garfield added a 2-for-5, two-run performance as the Timber Rattlers out-hit the LumberKings, 11-6.
The LumberKings (35-29) continue the series against Wisconsin (23-41) tomorrow night at 7:00 PM. Left-hander Jimmy Gillheeney (4-4, 2.82) will make his team-leading 14th start. Listen to the game on AM 1390 KCLN in Clinton or live on the web at 1390kcln.com.
