Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
CLINTON, IA - Maverick Lasker tossed seven strong innings and the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers hitters put together an 11-hit attack to defeat the Clinton LumberKings Tuesday night at Alliant Energy Field. Wisconsin's 8-1 victory put a serious dent into Clinton's playoff hopes and let the Rattlers start their final road trip of the first half on a good note.
Clinton (35-29) drew first blood. Henry Contreras grounded out to second to drive in a run from third in the bottom of the second. But, that was it for their offense. The LumberKings entered play on Tuesday trailing Quad Cities by three games for the Western Division Wild Card spot with six games to play. Quad Cities was leading 6-1 late in their game against Beloit on Tuesday night and were poised to take a four game lead with five to play.
LumberKings starter Taylor Stanton cruised through the first four innings as he retired the first 12 batters he faced. But, the Wisconsin bats found the range in the fifth inning. Khris Davis, Cameron Garfield, and Cutter Dykstra had consecutive singles to load the bases. Chris Dennis followed with an RBI single to tie the game.
An errant throw on an attempted double play in the top of the sixth inning allowed D'Vontrey Richardson to score from second to put the Rattlers (23-41) in front. Later in the inning, Cameron Garfield drove in a run with a two-out double. Cutter Dykstra was the next batter and he singled to drive in Garfield.
The Rattlers tacked on three more runs in the eighth inning. Dykstra's third hit of the game was an RBI single. Dennis got into the act again in the inning with a two-run double for a 7-1 Wisconsin lead.
Lasker settled down after the second inning. He allowed one run on five hits; struck out six without walking a batter; and matched a professional high for innings pitched in a game with seven. It was enough to pick up his fourth win of the season.
Caleb Thielbar and newcomer Matt Costello each pitched a scoreless inning out of the bullpen to nail down the Wisconsin victory.
Game two of the series is Wednesday night. Jake Odorizzi (2-1, 4.02) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Clinton is countering with Jimmy Gillheeney (4-4, 2.82). Game time is 7:00pm.
