Clinton LumberKings News Release

Clinton, IA - After spending nearly three weeks with 24 on the 25-man roster, the Clinton LumberKings have reached the maximum with the addition of left-hander Tim Murphy, promoted today from short-season Spokane.

Murphy, 21, was the third-round selection (89th overall) by the Texas Rangers in the 2008 draft out of UCLA. He becomes the first player from this year's draft to join the LumberKings.

The lefty went 3-1 with a 3.03 ERA in 13 games, one start with Spokane, walking 15 while striking out 40. He was 2-for-2 in saves and didn't' lose until his final game with the Indians, a start at Boise in which he allowed four runs on two hits over 3.1 innings.

Murphy was a two-way star for UCLA, playing in 36 games in his junior season, 15 of which came as a pitcher. He went 5-6 with a team-best 3.34 ERA, striking out 111 batters in 102.1 innings. Murphy also made nine starts in center and five at designated hitter for the Bruins.

Murphy will wear #35 and joins the team for tonight's game against Burlington.
