LANSING - The Lansing Lugnuts tossed their 11th shutout of the season, trumping the West Michigan Whitecaps 1-0 at Fifth Third Ballpark Thursday night.

Lansing's Brian Letko and West Michigan's Lauren Gagnier were locked in a scoreless pitchers duel until the sixth inning when Moises Sierra doubled off of Gagnier and later scored on a wild pitch, giving the Lugnuts a 1-0 lead.

Letko (4-3) was brilliant in his start as he gave up just three hits in six innings of work. He struck out four and stranded three Whitecaps at third base. He also extinguished West Michigan's best scoring chance in the fifth by inducing Justin Henry to ground into a double play that ended the inning.

Joe Wice tossed the next two frames for Lansing allowing just two hits and Edgar Estanga tossed a perfect ninth for his ninth save of the season.

Gagnier (1-8) took the tough loss after surrendering just one run over seven innings. He struck out five and walked one.

Lansing (69-54, 30-23) and West Michigan (61-59, 24-28) will play the rubber game of the set Friday night. Chi-Hung Cheng (5-6, 4.99) will make the start for the Lugnuts. He will be opposed by former Michigan State Spartan Jon Kibler (13-4, 1.72). First pitch at Fifth Third Ballpark is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
