Beloit Sky Carp News Release

Seven runs of one-run, five-hit baseball from starter Steven Hirschfeld was more than enough, as he and the Snappers took care of the River Bandits Thursday night, 6-1. Hirschfeld notched his ninth win of the year, striking out three and lowering his ERA to 3.60.

Beloit got rolling quickly with two runs in the bottom of the first inning off three hits and one River Bandit error. RBIs from Yangervis Solarte and Mark Dolenc pushed the Snappers ahead 2-0 after one.

The Snappers got one more in the bottom of the second inning to extend their lead to 3-0. Greg Yersich scored from third base on a Chris Cates double play fly out to center field. Yersich's run put Beloit ahead by three after two innings.

Quad Cities came back in the top of the third inning with a run of their own. Brett Wallace cracked a single to left-center field that scored Domnit Bolivar all the way from first base. Bolivar was able to score on a fielding error from Beloit's Ben Revere. The unearned run would turn out to be the only one that Hirschfeld and the Snaps would allow.

The Snappers then came storming back for three more in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a commanding 6-1 lead. Ben Revere had the big hit for the Snaps, smashing a two-run single to left-center. Revere and the Snaps left the fourth inning with a five-run lead.

That would be more than enough for the Snappers, as their pitching staff combined to allow just six hits and one unearned run.

Ben Revere, Chris Cates and Andrew Schmiesing each had two hits for the Snappers who improved to 28-25 in the second half.
