Peoria Chiefs News Release

PEORIA, IL- The Peoria Chiefs in conjunction with the Chicago Cubs have announced that outfielder Dylan Johnston has been activated from the disabled list and will be in the lineup tonight when the Chiefs host the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers at 7:00 PM. Outfielder Cliff Andersen has been placed on the disabled list with a left calf strain to make room on the Chiefs roster.

Johnston was placed on the disabled list with an injured hamstring on June 24 while the Chiefs were playing in Burlington. Prior to being injured, Johnston was batting .264 with nine home runs and 36 RBI in 62 games. This season the 21-year-old has made a position change from shortstop to the outfield. He has played mostly in right and left field but also started two games at first base. Over the course of the first six weeks of the season, he led the team in all power categories. The left-handed hitting Johnston has posted a .340 average against left-handed pitchers thus far in 2008. Johnston, a 2005 fourth round pick out of Hamilton High School in Arizona, has hit seven of his nine home runs on the road this season with his last one coming at home on June 21.

Andersen, who is third on the team in games played with 96, heads to the disabled list with a .220 average along with three home runs and 21 RBI. Andersen also has 13 doubles, three triples and nine stolen bases in 13 attempts. The 21-year-old has struck out 110 times in 327 at-bats in 2008. In his last game with the Chiefs on Thursday night, he went 0-for-3 with a strikeout in a 3-2 loss to the Timber Rattlers.

Following tonight's game, the Chiefs will conclude the homestand and season series with Wisconsin on Friday night at 6:30 PM. Friday will be the third annual Illini Night at O'Brien Field as University of Illinois men's basketball coach Bruce Weber and assistant coach Jerrance Howard will both be in attendance. Chiefs players and coaches will be wearing special blue mesh Illinois jerseys with a rose patch on the left sleeve. The jerseys will be auctioned off as part of a silent auction throughout the game and Chiefs manager Ryne Sandberg's game-worn jersey will be auctioned live on the field after the game. The proceeds from the jersey auction will benefit the Dawn and Louis Weber Student Management Enhancement Fund. Both coaches will throw out a first pitch and sign autographs for fans. Also after the game will be one of two remaining fireworks shows this season presented by CEFCU. Prior to the fireworks there will be another Pitch-In for Charity to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Central Illinois presented by AquaTech Pool and Spas and Little Caesars Pizza.
