West Michigan Whitecaps News Release

COMSTOCK PARK - Lauren Gagnier threw a two-out wild pitch in the sixth inning that allowed Moises Sierra to score the only run in a 1-0 Lansing win over the Whitecaps. It was the first time the Whitecaps have lost 1-0 since April 27, 2007 at Peoria.

Gagnier allowed one base runner - on a lead off single by C. J. Ebarb in the second inning - until the sixth when Sierra led off with a double. A fly ball by Jonathan Baksh put Ebarb at third.

Brian Letko tossed six innings as the starting pitcher for Lansing and combined with Joe Wice (two innings) and Edgar Estanga for the shutout. It was the 12th time this year the Whitecaps have been shutout, which is the most since West Michigan was blanked 16 times in 1998. Gagnier went seven innings and allowed three hits. Orlando Perdomo finished the game for the Whitecaps with two perfect innings of relief.

Joe Tucker had two of the five Whitecaps hits while Alex Avila walked twice for West Michigan. The Whitecaps left a runner at third base in three different innings.
