Kingfish Smash Woodchucks in Season Series Finale

Wausau, WI - The Kingfish came away with victory in emphatic fashion as they took down the Wisconsin Woodchucks by a final score of 17-5.

The Kingfish never trailed, as they scored first on a Jeremy Vasquez sacrifice fly to make the score 1-0 in the first frame. The Kingfish offense would go on to put up sixteen more runs off of a grand total of seventeen hits. Jason Scholl, Micah Coffey, and Zack Weigel each had a trio of hits tonight. Additionally, Eric Filia, Alex Borglin, and John Brodner each collected a pair of knocks. Filia paced the Kingfish offense with four runs batted in, and Alex Borglin scored a team high four runs.

E.J. Trapino was the starting pitcher for the Kingfish and had yet another good outing. He worked five innings, allowing just one earned run and two walks while striking out five as he claimed his third win of the summer. Ryne Blanton got two and a third of an inning under his belt while surrendering one earned run, and Brett Shimanovsky pitched a dominating two and a third, which saw only one Woodchuck record a hit. Trevor Haas pitched a scoreless ninth to shut the door on the Woodchucks.

The Kingfish are now 44-20 on the season with tonight's victory. They will head on the road for inter-division play against the North Division tomorrow as they take on the Mankato Moondogs.
