Kalamazoo Growlers News Release
KALAMAZOO, MI - The Kalamazoo Growlers walked-off against the Green Bay Bullfrogs, 4-3, on a wild pitch from reliever Jeremy Graf (St.Petersburg College) which scored Growler newcomer Drew Farmer (Western Michigan).
This win could not of come at a better time for Kalamazoo (7-20, 15-50) as it was one loss away from claiming the worst record in Northwoods League history.
The end boxscores for both team are nearly identical. Up until the bottom of the ninth, both teams had three runs, 10 hits and two errors.
Kalamazoo held a lead since the second inning, but Green Bay (37-28) scored a run in the fifth, seventh and eighth to tie the game up at three runs apiece.
In the bottom of the ninth, though, things started off right for Kalamazoo. Bryce Adams (LSU), who went two for four on the day, led off the inning with a single. After Adams got on base, he was replaced by pinch-runner Drew Farmer. Following the Adams single, Marquise Gill (Eastern Michigan) walked which put runners on first and second with no outs. A wild pitch to the next batter, John Soteropulos (Cal), allowed the runners to advance to third and second.
Soteropulos ended up walking which loaded the bases.
Angelo Armenta (USC) barely saw any pitches before one got past the Bullfrog catcher allowed Farmer to score from third.
Growler starter T.J. Cervin (KVCC) had a good day on the mound.
Cervin pitched seven solid innings walking three batters, but only allowing one earned run.
Other than Adams, Justin Fletcher (Northern Illinois) and Armenta also went two four four and gave the Growlers the offense it needed for their 15th victory on the season.
