Kingfish beat Pilots in Shootout, 4-3

The Kingfish spotted Pensacola a 3-0 lead before storming back in the final stanza to send the game to a shootout as the Kingfish the Kingfish downed the Ice Pilots 4-3.

Despite outshooting the Kingfish 19-6 after one period, Pensacola only held 1-0 lead after the opening stanza. Gregor Baumgartner slipped the puck past Jeff Blair at the 11:16 mark as he was setup in the slot off a pass from Trevor Allman.

Four minutes into the second period, Pensacola took a 2-0 lead as Louis Dumont beat Blair over the shoulder. Chad Theuer and Greg Pankewicz added the assists on the goal.

Midway through the second, Pensacola took a 3-0 lead as Gaetan Royer took the puck off the draw and slipped the puck past Blair. Dumont picked up an assist by wining the draw to Royer.

The Kingfish looked to Bryan Richardson to get things going again, less than a minute later. Jason Norrie and Clark Jones set up a wide-open Richardson in the slot.

A minute and a half into the third period, Joe Guenther cut the Ice Pilot lead to one off a centering pass from Steve Cheredaryk. Marquis Mathieu also added an assist on the goal.

Ryan Trsek picked up the loose puck in the slot and beat Gingras at the 9:08 mark of the period to tie the contest at three. Guenther and Mathieu added the assists on the goal.

The Kingfish and Ice Pilots skated to a scoreless tie in the overtime session, but the Kingfish used goals from Marquis Mathieu and Glen Crawford in the shootout to pick up the 4-3 win.

The Kingfish return home to battle the Ice Pilots on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. and travel to Columbus to take on the Cottonmouths on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. Catch both games on Baton Rouge's Best R&B, 104.5 WZRB.
