
Kernels snap streak in 4-1 win over Wizards

The Cedar Rapids Kernels broke a three game losing streak with a 4-1 win over the Fort Wayne Wizards on Sunday afternoon at Memorial Stadium in Fort Wayne.
Kernels starter Michael Anton allowed a run on six hits and struck out six over 6.2 innings to improve to 4-1 on the season. Brian Chambers struck out one over 1.1 innings and Ryan Brasier allowed a hit in the ninth inning to earn his sixth save of the season.
Ivan Contreras, Andrew Romine, Efren Navarro and Clay Fuller each had two hits as the Kernels had 11 hits on the day. Fuller and Navarro had an RBI along with Chris Rosenbaum and Jerry Gonzalez. Jay Brossman went 0 for 4 to see his hitting streak snapped at seven games.
Fort Wayne starter Mat Latos (0-2) gave up two runs on five hits over three innings to take the loss.
With the win, the Kernels improve to 15-13 on the season. Fort Wayne falls to 13-16.
The Kernels return home to Dale and Thomas Popcorn Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Monday, May 5th to start a three game series with the Peoria Chiefs and their hall of fame manager, Ryne Sandberg. This is the only time in the 2008 regular season that the Chiefs come to Cedar Rapids.
