Dayton Dragons News Release

Dayton, Ohio-Justin Reed drilled a two-run home run while Scott Carroll and two relievers combined on a seven-hit shutout as the Dayton Dragons defeated the Burlington Bees 2-0 on Sunday. Sunday's crowd of 9,171 was the Dragons largest of the season.

The win gave the Dragons their fourth consecutive series victory. They have won two of three games in each of the last four sets. Dayton's record improved to 16-12. They are in second place in the Midwest League's Eastern Division, one game behind West Michigan.

The only runs of the game came in the fifth inning. Dayton's Brett Bartles singled with two outs and Reed followed with a home run to right field, his first of the season, to give the Dragons a 2-0 lead.

Carroll (1-1) was outstanding over seven scoreless innings. He allowed five hits and walked two while striking out four to earn the win.

Jeff Jeffords relieved Carroll to start the eighth and after retiring the first two batters in the inning, allowed a hit and a walk as the tying run reached base. Joseph Krebs replaced Jeffords and got Jamar Walton to ground out to second to end the inning.

Krebs got the first two hitters in the ninth before issuing a walk to Zach Evangelho. Todd Balduf followed with a single to left. Adrian Ortiz then hit a slow bouncer to the right side that second baseman Kevyn Feiner mishandled for an error to load the bases as the Bees pushed the tying run to second. The next hitter, David Lough, hit a bouncer that appeared to be headed into right field to tie the game, but Feiner made a diving stop to his left and threw from his knees to nip Lough and end the game.

The Dragons open a three game series with Quad Cities on Monday at 7:00 p.m. at Fifth Third Field. Right-hander Curtis Partch (0-4, 7.03) will start for Dayton against Quad Cities left-hander Nick Additon (3-1, 3.09).

Notes: The Dragons have won six of their last eight games and are 8-4 over the last 12...Carroll has not allowed a run over his last two starts. His current streak of 16 and one-third straight scoreless innings is a Dragons 2008 team high...Michael McKennon went 2 for 4 and stole two bases as he snapped a 0 for 21 drought.
