Kane County Cougars News Release
GENEVA, IL. - After winning their first five series of the year, the Kane County Cougars have now dropped each of their last four, thanks to an 11-4 defeat Sunday afternoon against the Clinton LumberKings in front of 7,487 at Elfstrom Stadium. The Cougars lost two of the three games and now hit the road for a week after going 3-6 on their nine-game homestand.
Starter Jamie Richmond (2-2) got tabbed for six runs -- five earned -- over six innings in the loss. He yielded eight hits, walked none and fanned three. He and the Cougars trailed 5-0 in the fifth when Todd Johnson's run-scoring infield single cut it to 5-1. Later Corey Brown brought in a run with a grounder to make 6-2, but the LumberKings hit a pair of homers in the ninth -- one each off Chad Kerfoot and Leonardo Espinal -- for an 11-2 advantage. Michael Lissman ended the Cougars' day with a two-run double in the ninth for the 11-4 finish.
The Cougars (18-10), who are three games behind Clinton for first place, start a seven-game road trip Monday night at 5:35 CT against the West Michigan Whitecaps (17-11), the other first-place team in the league. Travis Banwart (2-2, 2.48) will face Manny Miguelez (0-1, 6.08).
