Kernels Homestand Preview - June 30 to July 5

It's a Party at the Park as the Kernels return to Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Thursday, June 30th for a six game home stand. Here's what you can expect over the next six games:

June 30 - July 2 vs. Wisconsin

The Kernels return to Perfect Game Field on Thursday, June 30th to open a six game home stand with three games against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, the Midwest League affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers. It's a 100.7 The Fox Thirsty Thursday where 12 oz. drat beer is $1.50 and bottled soda and water are just two dollars. The Kernels welcome special guests from Prairie Rec Baseball and Upper Iowa University to the game. Gates open at 5:30 pm and first pitch between the Kernels and Timber Rattlers is set for 6:35 pm.

The day starts early on Friday, July 1st as the Kernels host the Office Olympiad from noon until 3 pm as part of the Freedom Festival. Then, the Kernels take on Wisconsin at 6:35 pm with the gates opening at a special time of 5:00 pm. The Cedar Rapids Park & Recreation Department will have their annual Softball Home Run Derby on the field before the game and those of you that were here last year remember the awesome display of power as these contestants sent home run after home run sailing out of Perfect Game Field. Then, the US Army Golden Knights Parachute Jumpers will land in Veterans Memorial Stadium prior to the game. It's also 98.1 KHAK Two for One Beer Friday - buy one 16 oz. draft beer at the regular price starting at 5:30 pm and get one free. And finally, it's a FRITO'S Family Friday where fans will be randomly selected to take part in various ballpark activities such as throwing out a first pitch or leading the crowd in the 7th Inning Stretch.

Everyone loves fireworks and the Kernels have a spectacular fireworks show scheduled after the Kernels game with Wisconsin on Saturday, July 2nd, sponsored by Mix 96.5 FM. It's Armed Forces Night, sponsored by Midwest Curb Grinding. The Kernels will wear special jerseys that will be sold during the game with the proceeds to benefit the Eastern Iowa Honor Flight. The Kernels welcome special guests to Solon night at the stadium. Fireworks nights are the most popular games of the season so get your tickets early for the best seats. Gates open at 5:30 pm and the Kernels take on Wisconsin at 6:35 pm.

July 4 - 6 vs. Burlington

The Kernels continue their six game home stand with three games against the Burlington Bees, the Midwest League affiliate of the Oakland Athletics. On Sunday, July 3rd, Kids Eat Free at the ballpark. That's right, the first 1,000 kids 12 and under receive a coupon for a free hot dog, soda and popcorn from the special concession stands on the concourse. And, it's a 104.5 KDAT Sunday Family Day where fans can get autographs from the Kernels before the game, play Travel Advisors Baseball Vacation Bingo during the game, enjoy face painters Funny Face Designs by Lori and storybook princess Snow White, presented by Glass Slipper Entertainment on the concourse during the game, and run the bases and play catch in the outfield after the game, thanks to Wickwire Chiropractic and Wellness Center. First pitch between the Kernels and Burlington is set for 2:05 pm with the gates opening at 1:00 pm.

Celebrate the Fourth of July with the Kernels at Veterans Memorial Stadium. The day starts early with the Grand Ol' Pancake Breakfast at the stadium from 8 to 11 am. Admission to the breakfast is $5 for adults and $3 for children 10 and under and Freedom Festival button wearers get $1 off. Then, the Kernels take on Burlington at 5:05 pm with the gates opening at 4:00 pm. The first 1,000 kids through the gates, age 12-under, receive a free regulation youth-sized baseball bat from McDonald's. They were here back in June and now they're back to perform again - it's Midwest Dueling Pianos presented by USA Entertainment Agency. They'll perform during and after the game and stick around following the game for the Kernels Fourth of July Fireworks synchronized with the Freedom Festival Downtown fireworks show here at approximately 9:40 pm.

One day wasn't enough so they're back again - it's Midwest Dueling Piano's performing at Tuesday's game between the Kernels and Burlington Bees. It's a Z 102.9 Two Dollar Tuesday where regular hot dogs, peanuts, nachos, bottled soda and water and 12 oz. draft beer is just $2 all game. Bring your KRAFT Singles package wrapper to the Kernels Ticket Office for a buy one ticket, get one free offer from KRAFT Singles. The Kernels welcome guests from USSSA for their night at the stadium. The Kernels and Bees wrap up their three game set at 6:35 pm with the gates opening at 5:30 pm.

104.5 KDAT Sunday Family Fun Day: Every Sunday home game, fans can get autographs from the Kernels players on the concourse from 1:20 to 1:40 pm. And after the game, kids (and adults) can run the bases and play catch on the field, thanks to Wickwire Chiropractic. Tickets for all Kernel home games are available on-line at www.kernels.com ; in person at the Kernels Ticket Office, or by calling 896-7560 during Ticket Office Hours. The Kernels Ticket Office is open from 10 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday and from 10 am to 2 pm on Saturday. The ticket office is closed on Sunday, but opens at 11 am on Kernel Sunday Home games.
