The Kernels return to Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Saturday, July 10th and open a nine-game, 10-day home stand. Here's a preview of what you can expect during the next nine home games:
July 10-12 vs. Peoria Chiefs
The Kernels open a nine game home stand this Saturday, July 10th, with three games against the Peoria Chiefs, the Midwest League affiliate of the Chicago Cubs. It's Armed Forces Night, presented by the Milling Company. The Kernels will wear special camouflage jerseys that will be sold via a silent auction during the game with the proceeds to benefit the Freedom Alliance. And following the game, enjoy a spectacular fireworks show, presented by Z 102.9, the Milling Company and J&M Displays. Gates open at 5:30 pm and first pitch between the Kernels and Chiefs is set for 6:35 pm.
The first 1,000 fans through the gates when they open at 1:00 pm on Sunday, July 11th receive a free t-shirt from the Best Western Longbranch. Bark in the Park, rescheduled from June 12th, lets dog owners bring their dogs to the ballpark with a special doggie ticket. Proceeds from the doggie tickets go to the Cedar Valley Humane Society. And, it's a 104.5 KDAT Sunday Family Day. The Kernels are wearing special red Angel Jerseys, sponsored by Xquisite Limo; fans can get autographs from the Kernels on the concourse from 1:20 to 1:40 pm; Meet Papa Balloon and Glass Slipper Entertainment's Belle from 'Beauty and the Beast' and play Travel Advisors Baseball Vacation Bingo during the game; and run the bases and play catch in the outfield after the game, thanks to Beef O'Brady's. First pitch between the Kernels and Chiefs is 2:05 pm.
Baseball should be played under warm summer skies and the Kernels host the Chiefs in a noon game on Monday, July 12th presented by Z 102.9. Take a break from the office and catch some Kernels baseball as the gates open at 11 am and first pitch is set for 12:05 pm.
July 14-16 vs. Fort Wayne Tin Caps
The Kernels continue a nine game home stand on Wednesday, July 14th with three games against the Fort Wayne Tin Caps, the Midwest League affiliate of the San Diego Padres. One lucky fan, age 18 and older, could win $10,000 on Mix 96.5 FM/WMT AM 600 Winning Wednesday. If the Kernels perform a certain feat in the correct inning, one fan will be drawn from the nightly entries to win $10,000. Five former players from the 1960 Cedar Rapids Braves team will be at the game. Ron Hunt, Larry Huebner, Anthony Komisar, Paul Snyder and William Marnie will be honored on the field prior to the game and will sign autographs on the concourse during the game. Gates open at 5:30 and first pitch between the Kernels and Tin Caps is at 6:35 pm.
Bring your thirst to the ballpark as 12 oz. draft beer is just $1.50 and bottled soda and water is just $2.00 on 100.7 The Fox Thirsty Thursday. The Fox DJ's will be pouring beer, so make sure to tip them, as all their tips will be donated to a local charity. Gates open at 5:30 pm and first pitch is set for 6:35 pm.
You could win a used car on our second Pat McGrath Used Car Night on Friday, July 16th when the Kernels take on Fort Wayne at 6:35 pm. Fans, age 18 and older, will be given a ticket when they get to the stadium and if your number is drawn, you've won a used car. It's also Rock 108 FM Progressive Beer Night. Get here when the gates open at 5:30 pm as 16 oz. draft beer is just $1 and goes up a dollar each hour until reaching full price.
July 17-19 vs. Lake County Captains
The Kernels wrap up their nine game home stand with three games against the Lake County Captains, the Midwest League affiliate of the Cleveland Indians on Saturday, July 17th. The Kernels hit the asphalt for some Saturday Night Thunder on NASCAR Night, presented by Veridian Credit Union. Come dressed wearing your favorite NASCAR driver apparel as the first 1,000 fans through the gates when they open at 5:30 pm get a free Fan Banner, thanks to Veridian Credit Union. Enjoy a parade of race cars, including the pace car from the Iowa Speedway in Newton before the game. And the Kernels wrap up the night with a thunderous fireworks display, sponsored by Veridian Credit Union and J&M Displays. First pitch between the Kernels and Captains is set for 6:35 pm.
It's a 104.5 KDAT Sunday Family Day when the Kernels take on Lake County at 2:05 pm. The Kernels are wearing special red Angel Jerseys, sponsored by Xquisite Limo; fans can get autographs from the Kernels on the concourse from 1:20 to 1:40 pm; meet Papa Balloon and Glass Slipper Entertainment's Snow White on the concourse and play Travel Advisors Baseball Vacation Bingo during the game; and run the bases and play catch in the outfield after the game, thanks to Beef O'Brady's. The world-famous Klements Sausages will be at Sunday's game and perform their famous Sausage Race during the game. Gates open at 1:00 pm.
The Kernels end their nine game home stand with a noon game on Monday, July 19th, sponsored by 104.5 KDAT. Slip away from the office and take in the sights and sounds of Kernels baseball when they take on Lake County at 12:05 with the gates opening at 11:00 am.

Mix 96.5 FM/WMT AM 600 Winning Wednesday: A lucky Kernels fan, age 18 and older, could win $10,000 on Winning Wednesday, when the Kernels perform a certain feat in an inning such as hit for the cycle as a team, or the shortstop makes all three outs in the inning.
100.7 The Fox Thirsty Thursday: 12 oz. draft beer is $1.50 all game and get bottled soda and water for $2.
Rock 108 FM Progressive Beer Friday: 16 oz. draft beer starts at $1 when the gates open and goes up $1 an hour until reaching full price.
Tickets for all Kernel home games are available on-line at www.kernels.com ; in person at the Kernels Ticket Office, or by calling 896-7560 during Ticket Office Hours. The Kernels Ticket Office is open from 10 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday and from 10 am to 2 pm on Saturday. The ticket office is closed on Sunday, but opens at 11 am on Kernel Sunday Home games.
