South Bend Silver Hawks News Release
Fort Wayne, IN - Matt Davidson entered play on Saturday night tied for the Midwest League lead with 54 RBIs on the season. Apparently, a tie wasn't good enough for Davidson, as he drove in three runs - including the game winner in the top of the ninth - to lift the Silver Hawks to a 6-4 victory over the Fort Wayne TinCaps at Parkview Field.
With the bases loaded and two outs, Davidson lined the first pitch he saw from Fort Wayne closer Nick Schumacher (LP, 2-5) down the left field line to break a 4-4 tie. Those RBIs were the second and third driven in on the night for Davidson, who now has 57 to his credit on the season.
Chris Odegaard (WP, 4-0) pitched 2.1 scoreless innings of relief to earn his fourth win, while Brian Budrow (SV, 1) tossed a1-2-3 ninth, keeping the TinCaps from coming back again and earning his first save. Budrow has not allowed a run in his last13.2 innings on the mound.
South Bend was in position for the late inning victory by continuing to keep the pressure on. The Hawks took a 1-0 lead against Mike Watt (ND) in the second on a RBI single by Matt Helm, but the TinCaps answered with two unearned runs in the bottom of the second against South Bend starter Andrew Wolcott.
South Bend took a 3-2 lead in the top of the sixth, with Davidson and Helm each driving in a run against reliever Jon Berger (ND). However, the TinCaps scored two more runs in the bottom of the sixth against Wolcott to retake a 4-3 advantage.
The Silver Hawks answered again with a run in the top of the seventh against Jeff Ibarra (ND). Ender Inciarte doubled to left to start the inning, and scored from third two outs later when Bobby Borchering came through with a RBI single to center.
Borchering has now driven in seven runs in his last six games, picking up at least one hit in all six. Davidson extended his hitting streak to eight games and has 11 RBIs in that time frame.
The two teams continue the three game series with a matinee on Sunday, beginning at 3:05 PM Eastern Time at Parkview Field. South Bend will go with RHP Scottie Allen (3-2, 4.93 ERA) in the starting role while the TinCaps will send LHP Jose De Paula (4-2, 1.63 ERA) to the bump. Pregame coverage begins at 2:45 PM Eastern Time on 1620 ESPN Radio and online at www.silverhawks.com.
