
Bandits Open Series with 6-2 Win over Beloit

DAVENPORT, Iowa - The Quad Cities River Bandits took a 3-0 lead after five innings of play and held off the Snappers. The Bandits relied on their situational hitting as they were outhit by Beloit 9-8 but came out on-top of the Snappers. Quad Cities added two runs in the eighth to seal up the victory.
Joe Kelly (4-6) went six strong for Quad Cities, allowing just one run on five hits, punching out five. Kelly picked up his fourth win of the season on Saturday night. Jhon Garcia (0-2) was charged with his second loss of the season after he surrendered three runs on six hits through 4.1 innings of work for Beloit. Michael Blazek (2) picked up his second save of the season by pitching two shutout innings.
Luis Mateo led the charge offensively going 4-for-5 with three RBI and two doubles. Freddy Parejo clubbed his fourth homer of the season in the fourth inning. Matt Adams and Devin Goodwin each added an RBI on a sacrifice fly for the Bandits.
The River Bandits and Snappers continue their three game series on Sunday night when Eric Fornataro (6-7) takes the hill for Quad Cities. Fornataro will square off with fellow righty, Iowa native, B.J. Hermsen (4-4). Don't miss the Mega Candy Drop, Baseball America's top one-night promotion in 2009, on Sunday night. First pitch is set for 5 p.m. with the gates of Modern Woodmen Park opening at 3:30 p.m.
