Hard Times in Wisconsin Continue for Bees
July 10, 2010 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Burlington Bees News Release
Grand Chute, WI (July 10, 2010) - Rain delayed the start of Saturday night's contest, but it could not prevent the Bees from dropping a seventh straight game at Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium. The Bees fell 2-1 to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers in the opener of a three-game series
The Timber Rattlers scored a pair of runs in the third, and that would be all they needed in a game that had the start pushed back an hour and 11 minutes by the threat of rain. Scooter Gennett, the Midwest League's active leader in hits after the promotion of Mike Trout, shot a bouncer through the right side of the infield to snap Dusty Odenbach's 14 1/3-inning scoreless streak. Three batters later, with the bases loaded after a hit batsman and a walk, Odenbach (L, 4-6) committed his third balk in his last two starts to bring home the go-ahead tally.
Deivy Batista and Carlo Testa sliced back-to-back triples with one out in the first inning to give the Bees their only run. Rattlers hurlers Damon Krestalude, Efrain Nieves (W, 3-3), and Jon Pokorny (S, 6) combined to shut out the Bees over the next eight innings to seal the win.
Testa was the only Bee to register multiple hits. Mitch Hodge twirled two late innings of scoreless relief to maintain the deficit. Odenbach allowed two runs on five hits in six innings for his second straight quality start.
The Bees and Timber Rattlers square off in an afternoon contest on Sunday at 1:05. The pitching matchup will pit two Western Division All-Stars against one another - Wisconsin's Jake Odorizzi and Tyler Sample of the Bees. Follow the action live with Nick Devlin on News Radio 1490 KBUR starting with the Casebine Community Credit Union Pregame Show at 12:45.
