Kernels Drop First Road Game, 2-1

Davenport, IA - The Cedar Rapids Kernels dropped their first road game of the season, 2-1, to the Quad Cities River Bandits on Sunday afternoon at Modern Woodman Park in Davenport. Michael Wing went 2-3 and drove in the Kernels only run, his third RBI of the season.

Kernels starter Orangel Arenas allowed two runs on six hits, walked two and struck out six over six innings in taking the loss. The Kernels out hit Quad Cities, 8-7 and drew seven walks, but left 12 runners on base. Mike Trout went 2-2 and drew three walks and Jean Segura went 2-5.

The Kernels trailed 1-0 heading into the sixth inning, and tied the game as Randal Grichuk reached on an error, stole second and scored on Wing's single. The River Bandits took the lead right back in the bottom of the frame on a solo home run by Matt Adams off Arenas.

Chris Notti (1-0) picked up the win in relief of starter Shelby Miller. Jesse Simpson gave up a walk in the ninth but struck out Segura and Carlos Ramirez looking to end the threat.

The Kernels and River Bandits continue their three game series Monday at 11 am from Modern Woodman Park. John Rodgers brings you the play-by-play action on the radio home of Kernels baseball, 1450 KMRY AM.

The Kernels return home to Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Wednesday, April 14 and open a three game series with the Peoria Chiefs.
