Hawks Still Looking for First Win

South Bend, IN - The South Bend Silver Hawks have lost their first four games of the season for the third time in the last four years, falling on Sunday afternoon to the Lake County Captains 8-2. The Hawks are the lone squad remaining in the 16-team Midwest League still searching for their first victory of the year.
Most of the damage was done by the first three batters in the Lake County lineup as they combined to reach base 14 times in 15 plate appearances. Casey Frawley went 4-for-5 with four singles, three runs scored, and also reached on an error at the top of the lineup. Bo Greenwell scored four runs in the two spot of the lineup, while Jeremie Tice had three hits, a walk, and two RBIs as the three hole hitter.
Kyle Smith had a solo home run for the Captains in the second and Chun Chen added a two-run single in the eighth to pace the fourth straight victory for Lake County. The Captains, playing in the Midwest League for the first time, have yet to lose a game on the season.
David Nick continued his hot hitting for South Bend, going two-for-four with a double and a RBI. Nick reached base in seven consecutive plate appearances dating back to Friday night until striking out in the fifth inning Sunday. Nick is currently working on a three game hitting streak.
Alberto Diaz extended his hitting streak to four games with a RBI single in the fourth, and Ryan Babineau picked up a hit in the eighth to stretch his streak to three games.
South Bend starter Chase Anderson (LP, 0-1) was victimized by three early errors, allowing five runs (only two earned) over 4.1 innings.
Lake County starter Marty Popham (WP, 1-0) allowed two runs over 5.0 innings to earn the win in his first start of the season. Austin Adams (SV, 1) pitched four scoreless innings of relief for the save, allowing just one hit while striking out five.
The Silver Hawks and Captains play game two of the series on the season's first Dollar Monday presented by Pepsi and U93. Game time is scheduled for 6:30 PM Eastern Time with LHP Dan Taylor (5-1, 3.53 ERA in 2009) starting for South Bend against RHP Clayton Cook (5-3, 2.79 ERA in 2009) for Lake County.
