Late-inning wildness dooms Bees

Burlington Bees News Release
Burlington, IA - Carlo Testa's game-tying home run in the bottom of the eighth inning provided only temporary relief for Burlington Bees fans on Saturday night, as Sam Runion's uncharacteristic wildness resulted in two ninth-inning runs in the Quad Cities River Bandits' 6-5 win at Community Field.
Runion (L, 0-1) entered the game looking to preserve the tie, but walked three and committed a throwing error to allow Quad Cities to take the lead. The first run scored on a wild pitch with Kyle Conley at the plate, then two batters later, Frederick Parejo worked a bases-loaded walk to add a valuable insurance run. Despite his struggles, Runion walked only 45 batters in 135 innings in Burlington last season.
The Bees' final comeback attempt in the bottom of the ninth gained some steam when Deivy Batista singled home Hilton Richardson with one out. The game and rally ended soon after, however, when Wil Myers grounded out sharply to third base for the third out.
The two teams combined to score in six consecutive half-innings, from the bottom of the second to the top of the fifth. Among the highlights, Joey Lewis rocked a second-inning double to left-center field to plate the first Bees run, and Luis Mateo sliced a two-run triple in the top of the fourth to give Quad Cities their first lead at 3-2.
The Bees tied the game shortly thereafter on a Batista RBI single in the bottom half of the frame, but a fifth-inning D'Marcus Ingram single gave the River Bandits the 4-3 advantage they would enjoy until Testa's big fly.
Christopher Corrigan (W, 1-0), the QC reliever who served up that shot, picked up the victory. Aaron Terry (S, 1) worked the eventful ninth for his first save.
Testa finished the night 2-for-4, and Gerard Hall and Batista added multi-hit games as well. The Bees' most effective pitcher, Brendan Lafferty, worked four innings of one-hit, one-run baseball with five strikeouts, but was on the hook for the loss until the Testa home run.
The Bees head to Kane County for a three-game series starting tomorrow afternoon before returning home on Wednesday night to take on the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Kids Eat Free Wednesday. All kids 12 and under will receive a free hot dog and drink at the game thanks to News Radio 1490 KBUR and Today's Light Favorites 93.5 KKMI.
