Early Rattler Offense Sinks Kings
April 11, 2010 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Clinton LumberKings News Release
Appleton, WI - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers scored runs against Clinton left-hander Jon Hesketh in each of the first five innings, building a six-run lead they'd never relinquish to hand the LumberKings an 8-2 loss at Time Warner Cable Field.
Scooter Gennett and Khris Davis greeted Hesketh (L, 0-1) rudely, ripping back-to-back doubles for a 1-0 lead. Chris Dennis made it 2-0 an inning later, reaching on one of his three hits and scoring as Joey Pachiorek grounded into a double-play.
Hesketh continued to struggle, serving up a double to D'Vontrey Richardson and allowing him to score on Gennett's RBI single in the third. Wisconsin then busted out to a 6-0 lead in the fourth thanks to RBI singles by Sean Halton and Richardson.
Clinton cut the deficit to four runs thanks to former Rattler Kalian Sams, who skied a two-run homer just over the high wall in left. His second blast of the season came with James Jones aboard and cut the deficit to 6-2.
That would be the only blemish to the line of Rattlers' starter Damon Krestalude (W, 1-0). The right-hander scattered five hits over 5.0 innings and struck out two. Right-hander Jake Odorizzi (S, 1) struck out four over the final 3.0 innings while allowing only one hit.
Hesketh gave up a total of seven runs, five earned on 10 hits over 4.2 innings. The relief combo of right-handers Daniel Cooper and Brandon Josselyn did not give up another run over the final 3.1 innings.
Sams lead the way for the Kings, going 3-for-3 with a double, the home run and two RBI. Dennis finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored for Wisconsin, while Richardson and Marseco had two RBI each.
The LumberKings (2-2) continue the series with the Timber Rattlers (3-1) tomorrow afternoon at Time Warner Cable Field, first pitch scheduled for 12:05 PM. Right-hander Taylor Stanton is slated to make his Midwest League debut. Listen to the game on AM 1390 KCLN or www.lumberkings.com.
