The River Bandits scored two runs in the ninth to take the series against Burlington.
The Quad Cities River Bandits won the rubber match with the Burlington Bees, 6-5. The Bandits scored two runs in the top of the ninth inning off of a wild pitch and a walk to seal the game.
Offensively, the River Bandits scored six runs on seven hits. Luis Mateo led the way with a two-run triple, in the fourth inning. Mateo was 1-for-2 with two RBIs in the game. Ryan Jackson was 2-for-4 along with Bandit center fielder D'Marcus Ingram, who each had a pair of singles.
Michael Blazek was the starter for the River Bandits, going four strong innings, allowing three runs-two earned. Blazek struck out four and walked one. Jorge Rondon was first to relieve Blazek. Rondon lasted three innings and only allowed one hit. Rondon fanned five during his time on the mound. Christopher Corrigan pitched the eighth inning for the Bandits, and let up a solo homer to tie the game at four. This set the table for the Bandits in the ninth.
Mateo drew a walk to lead off the top of the ninth, and later came around to score on a wild pitch by Bees hurler, Sam Runion. With bases loaded, Frederick Parejo drew a walk to bring in another run in the ninth.
The Bees scored a run in the bottom of the ninth in a final effort, but it wasn't enough. Aaron Terry (1) was brought in to close out the game for the Bandits, earning his first save of the 2010 season. Corrigan (1-0) chalked up his first victory of the season, while Runion (0-1) slated his first loss.
The Bandits take the field at Modern Woodmen Park for the first time in 2010 on Sunday. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. as Shelby Miller, the St. Louis Cardinals top prospect, according to Baseball America is set to face-off with Cedar Rapids Kernels' right hander Orangel Arenas in the Quad Cities' home opener. Fans are encouraged to show up early for the "Wii-ster Egg Hunt", set to take place on the field at 12:15 p.m.
