Brockton Rox News Release

Brockton, MA (August 1, 2008) - Coming off of his shortest start of the season, Rox ace RHP John Kelly shut out one of the Can-Am League's top offenses through six innings, while the Brockton offense provided more than enough support in an 8-3 win over Atlantic City at Campanelli Stadium on Friday night.

The Rox offense came alive in the third inning against Surf RHP JC Huguet. 2B Melvin Falu drove in SS Dominic Ramos with a double for the first run and scored two batters later on DH Jason Colson's two-run home run. Falu finished 4-4 with a double, an RBI, and a run scored. Brockton scored again in the inning when 1B Francisco Lebron drove in RF Jud Thigpen with an RBI single. Brockton scored one more run in the sixth inning and three in the eighth, highlighted by CF Eugene Julien's two-run triple.

All of the Brockton runs came against Atlantic City starter JC Huguet who threw over 160 pitches in the game. He struck out seven and walked four.

Atlantic City scored three runs off the Rox bullpen in the final three innings of the game.

The two teams meet again on Saturday in the second game of the weekend series. RHP Greg Bunn (2-3, 8.31 ERA) will pitch against RHP Austin Redwine (0-1, 6.75 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 PM.
